PSC160 INT - Memo :  Tests

There will be four tests during the course of the semester (scheduled below). There will be no "final exam" in the sense of a comprehensive exercise. The last test is simply "test four." Tests will never be given early and there will be no "make-up" exams. Nor will the instructor ship tests off campus for administration. If you already know of a conflict with respect to the schedule that you see below, you should withdraw from the class immediately. Each test will arrive in the Testing Center (below the Student Center) between 9:30 and 10:00 on the morning of the first day. Students can take the exam on either of the assigned days and will have unlimited time for one sitting.
What to Study / How to Prepare
The tests will be challenging, but the path to success could not be more clear. It starts with excellent work on the homework questions, which are based on the text. 1) Before you answer your homework questions, consider listening to the brief sound file that provides a chapter summary. After you have listened to the chapter summary, 2) read the text and 3) complete the homework questions carefully, consistent with the guidelines that were carefully explained at the orientation. Next, 4) move to the student Study Guide. You may purchase the hard copy of the Study Guide in the RVC bookstore, or you can access it online here. More specifically, work on the multiple choice questions, true/false questions and the data check questions. These are the types of questions that you will see on each test. As you work, make sure you are concentrating on the information addressed in the questions (not simply the style of the question or form and order of the answers). Finally, before you come to campus to take your test, go back over your homework questions and the information addressed in the Study Guide and 5) go through the self-grading practice tests that the authors have provided online. I think you will generally find that the more intelligent effort you put into the course, the more successful you will be on the tests. As you will also see, the tests have a very straight-forward quality about them and there is great continuity between the homework questions, the Study Guide and the tests.
