You may have noticed from the course catalogue and the
printed schedule that there is a required orientation for this course.
Before the semester begins and/or during the first week of classes, I will
post a schedule of
50-minute orientations that will be held on campus (see the upcoming
semester's schedule below). If a
student registers for the course but does not attend the orientation,
it is always my recommendation that they take the course next time
around, or some other time. This recommendation is based on the fact that,
of the 33 students who have tried to take this course without attending the
orientation, only 1 passed. The remaining 32 dropped the course, or failed,
and did not pass a single test in the process. If you cannot attend any of
the orientations scheduled, you need to know that this is
not a "do it yourself" course or a "design your own course" course. The
course demands are not exceptionally high, but they are wildly particular and
completely inflexible. Every student wishing to succeed in the course will be required
to satisfy them - without exception. So, plan on attending the orientation.
Or, print out all of the materials on the course web page and read
them over and over and over. You will need to be up to speed by the time of
the first assignment, which will be due the first week of class.
